How Are You Filling Someone’s Bucket Today
BY HELEN GALL
A couple of years ago, as I was going through a difficult time, I received an unexpected package all the way from San Jose, California. (I live in the U.K.)
It was a book titled, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” and it was accompanied by a bookmark note from my leader that read:
The Power of Small Acts of Kindness
Opening a door for someone.
Complementing a stranger.
Holding someone’s place in line.
These are small things we do every day.
And we model small acts of kindness every day at Cisco.
Giving it our all under a deadline.
Collaborating for a better outcome.
Helping when a colleague needs it most.
Making time to give when “to do’s” outnumber hours in a day
Take pleasure in filling someone’s bucket today.”
by Kelly Lang
We live in a world full of labels and ceilings. These labels define our gender, our role in society, our marital or health status, our job titles, our education level, and much more. Labels are often the very cause of the limitations in our lives.

This random act of kindness meant a great deal to me as it was a simple reminder that while I was going through a tough time, she was thinking of me.
It also quickly became a book my children and I read together as it is a brilliant reminder of how our actions can impact others.
What’s the book about? Essentially, it shares how everyone carries an invisible bucket that they fill with good thoughts and feelings about themselves and others.
When your bucket is full, you feel happy. When it’s empty, you feel sad and lonely.
You have the power to fill your bucket — and others’ — by what you say and do. If you do something kind, you help to fill both buckets. But if you do or say something mean, your words and actions can empty both buckets.
Today is Random Act of Kindness Day, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to fill someone’s bucket!
